Recommended anime? Depends on what you're into. If you like abstraction and philosophy, Serial Experiments Lain is a good choice. Again, it's all about what you are into.

There is so much out there...I liked Trigun, until they got rid of the one character whom I really liked..(won't mention the name in case someone doesn't know..), Inu Yasha is one of my Favorites right now, Bastard is a good manga series, they made a movie, but the Manga goes into more detail and will probally finish the series. The movie kind of just ends.., Zoids and Gundam are excellent if you like Mechs, Blue seed, Gunsmith Cats are cool, especially since they have female characters weilding guns and kickin' butt. There are so many, it depends on what you are into..
