Phantom of the Opera: December 2004

Joel Schumacher directs "Andrew Lloyd Weber's
'Phantom of the Opera'". I'm assuming that, given the title (and the music played in the trailer), this version is an adaptation of the musical, not the novel. The visuals in the trailer are gorgeous, but there's no speaking or singing to be heard. Not a whole lot is up on the official site yet, but the photos that are up look promising. I don't recognize any of the cast other than Minnie Driver, but they look capable enough.
This is either going to be one of the coolest movies ever, or one of the worst. Either way, I'll probably go see it, because I have an almost unhealthy love for "Phantom of the Opera".

I love Phantom of the Opera but I hate Joel Shumacker with a passion. For those of you playing at home, h made Phone Booth and the last 2 Batman movies. I for one am not going to see it, on the account of I already saw it on Broadway.

Me too! It was my favorite of the Llyod Webber musicals until I finally saw "Cats." I'm expecting this movie to tank - I'm not a fan of Schumacher in the slightest, so perhaps I have a natural bias to expect the movie to not do well.
At any rate, I'll go see it. Knowing me, I won't be able to stay away!

Oh, I imagine I'll go see it. Probably with my Mother in law. She saw it on Broadway and in England more times than we can count! I played the music when I was in drum corps and know the music quite well. I did finally see it when it came to San Francisco. In any case, I'm truly hoping it doesn't suck!

Alana and I will insist on seeing it, since both of us love the musical, and neither of us have had a chance to see it on stage...how well the movie does depends fully on whoever they have playing The Phantom, in my opinion...

Oh wow! i'm scared to expect a lot from this movie! I saw the stage version and i thought it was beautiful. I just might go see it. It'll be hard to get people to come with me though.
