It's Showtime!

This is going to be like pulling out a splinter.
It's going to hurt, but it will feel much better when it's out.
It is information several of us have known for a while, but we have kept it quiet in order to not panic or discourage the community.
We remained silent in order to buy us some time to formulate a game plan, so we could take action against some things which not only make no sense but are patently outrageous.

Some of you may be wondering where Zola's been the last few days. She's been wearing Norman's helmet, rallying the troops and clearing out the hanger.

Some of you may be wondering where I've been for the last few days.
Let's just say that I was conscripted to build us a megadeus.

Here's why:

The official word is that there will be no third season of Big-O.
The options were declined and there are no plans in the works for the series to continue.

We have written and called the network, they have sent us confirmation concerning this.

The man in charge of Adult Swim, Mike Lazzo, envisions the future of Adult Swim to be inexpensively produced "funny cartoons," not anime. This "mindset" was further reinforced at the web cam party where certain Adult Swim staff members mocked Big-O, and referred to it as "sh**" before shutting it off.

While we support fully Lazzo's decision to capitalize upon the current popularity of great programs like Family Guy, Aqua Teen, and Harvey Birdman, we cannot and will not support the mindset toward dedicated anime people who for years have been looked down on by those whose appreciation of cartoons ends at the funny pages.

It is patently disturbing that despite the tremendous amount of money Cartoon Network spent to produce Big-O that William's Street is willing to abandon that niche of people, assuming that they'll simply be "absorbed" into the new programming schedule.

Imagine that... perhaps that also explains why they never went public with this news.
Perhaps Williams Street was hoping that everyone would forget and just roll over like a bunch of lapdogs (pardon the pun).

Contributing members of the Big-O family have therefore decided to put their networking skills together and to UNIFY the anime community together into a cohesive economic body which both sponsors and Network officials will be forced to recognize.
That "body" is going to be the largest organized group of Gen-X'rs and Cusper anime fans that Cartoon Network has ever seen.

If you're tired of the bullsh!t of being stereotyped, of not having a voice... if you're tired of beauty and great storyline taking back seat to the tastes of the guy at work who farts and thinks it's funny, join this site, and be an active participate in the largest contingent of anime foot soldiers the world has ever seen.

We're going to be busting right out of the asphalt, right out of the goddamn ground just like a megadeus.
And they're never going to know what hit them.

Bust out your chromebusters people...

It's Showtime!

All the good things I said about Cartoon Network....

I take them back. If Anime dissapears from CN, I'm boycotting the network. I might just do so over the news on The Big O.

...

...

...

F-It. CN can just bite my shiny metal....

Ahem.
Wingnut 07-10-2004 12:45 AM
I'll lead the air attack squadrons in the Re-GZ on those who hold the truth from us.
This is a dark day indeed, one which will not be forgotten, but live in anime infimy.

While your reaction is perfectly understandable, a boycott isn't a good idea. Why would they make any effort for someone who isn't watching?

We have a lot of plans in the works, including running our own ad.

I'm not going to minimize it. This is going to require work and dedication. It's going to take time. What we need to do is put the kind of pressure on them they will understand.

Please, check out the info at our site. It will help you understand what they are trying to accomplish, how we can support them in reaching their goals, and get our Season 3 as well.

I can't believe this. I thought it was odd, when CN cut down on the anime..
Wingnut 07-10-2004 01:01 AM
Zola, kindly fix the site. NOTHING WORKS!!! Mad
Every feature has been disabled or in its words, the module is not active. F*** that. Why even bother to have options like that if we can't even use them?
Sorry, but that really pushed my buttons.
Paradigm Dog 07-10-2004 01:02 AM
You opt for an additional 26 episodes, you continue to drop small hints that it may happen, and then this. Cartoon Network, I'm disgusted! Alan, please, don't be vulgar-(Rosewater). ...Shwartzwald said it best: WAKE UP! WAKE UP! DON'T BE AFRAID OF KNOWLEDGE! and the whole rest of that great speech of the Leviathan ACT. This is depressing and unbelievable. Your site for saving BIG O is incredible. The fans have got to come out and support this. If the creators did have more in mind (which I've always beleived) they need to let their story be told. This anime is a beautiful epic...to leave it incomplete would be barbaric. Is one of your plans to let the creators know the fans support the continuation?

Also, may I hit up ADULT SWIM BOARDS with "BIG O IS VERY VERY DISPLEASED!" lol. give'em a taste of their own stupid medicine--or would that hurt the movement.

Just a simple note like:

"BIG O IS VERY VERY DISPLEASED!"

I'm disappointed and let down. BIG O will not continue with SEASON 3 as noted as a possibility. The horror.

Anyways, this is terrible news. But thank you for breaking it. Now to fight back. SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW-TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME! Double Sudden Impact piledrivers it is then.

"I'm suprised you've made it this far . . . most impressive, for a PARADIGM DOG!!!" -just had to say that. heh.

PS- ADULT SWIM is still gonna pick up anime as evident by their recent grabs at Ghost in the Shell TV, and Full Metal Alchemist. BUT I WANT BIG O III!!!

Dominus Dei and I are up to the challenge! Let' show these ignorant so-and-sos the old what-for... the old blood and vinegar!

Huzzah!

What the hell are you talking about?
Enable your cookies and grant permissions for the site in your firewall for interactivity before you blast Zola.

By the way, I'm the one who built the site, not Zola.

You're out of line critiquing and blasting anyone in this endeavor anyway as you've offered absolutely NOTHING toward it's creation.

I on the other hand spent countless hours sourcing and putting together something which just five years ago would have cost between $2500 and $5000 to produce.
And I did so free of charge for the benefit of the community.
(thank god for open-source php-nuke)

Furthermore, I spent days building the site and testing it on every platform browser I could find, with people from both coasts.

So if you have any further problems, go to there and pm me or set up an appointment in the chat room and I'll try to figure out what it is you need to change or upgrade.

Kindly do not dump on Zola again. Mad

I have joined, although I am not American, but I kind of dislike the quote of the CN's head. Not only about Big O but other things too.

I'll see what I can do. Smile

Wow, that really sucks. But eh, I saw it coming.

Erm.. While I support the goal... I would like to say that the front page is coming off as incredibly elitist to me. Just saying.

Where'd you get the Franklin quote, if he even said it? Heh.

BTW.. did Ben Franklin actually say that? LOL... Lord knows I wouldn't put it past him.

You're very perceptive.
Considering the fact that the advertising industry panders to kids, and considers Gen-X'rs, cuspers and other adults who enjoy anime to be just a bunch of slackers, geeks and dorks who like cartoon panty shots I would say that considering ourselves "elite" is a nice and appropriate counter-balance.
Just remember we're not the "elite" "sophisticated" staff members who mocked and ridiculed Big-O then asked, "Is anyone watching this sh!t?" before indignantly switching it off at the Halloween party, then turning the box back on when it was time for the Brak Show.

And yes, I do consider myself “elite”.
I’m a contributor; of fan fiction, of art, of my time and my resources, and I’m proud to hold my head up and look anyone in the eye and say that I like Japanese anime exceedingly better than cartoon celebrity mug fests, sterilized Disney musicals or ugly ass cartoons like South Park which while funny at first, eventually become tedious because they are nothing but adolescent toilet humor.

I think it’s about goddamn time that the adult anime community lifted up its head proudly and demonstrated to these cigar smoking pop-up window pimps that as adults we are the folks who hold the degrees, the high tech jobs and buy the cars with the leather upholstery.

That’s the only thing that will make the advertisers sit up and take notice, the fact that we actually spend money.
It’s time to wave the green under their noses by demonstrating our numbers, and a healthy “attitude” that’s mad as hell and isn’t going to take it anymore.

Mad

In many ways, Big O fans are the intellectual elite.

Think about it. Look at the high quality of posts here, how we have threads discussing mythology, religion, politics... I know of very few places where you can get so many good discussions.

Big O is a thinking person's anime. It doesn't appeal to the people like I used to work with that actually stood around *BRAGGING* that they didn't read.

The show attracts bright, professional people, the ones that are highly educated and generally are in good jobs (or will be when they finish school). We tend to be the "early adopters" of new technology, the ones who have the money to spend.

The problem is that as a group, we're used to being ignored! It's time to change that. We have the power to do it!

It's time for us to have a little pride, to deal from a position of strength. We have been dismissed far too often as "geeks" and "nerds".

It doesn't mean we're going to turn into a bunch of elitist snobs--people here are too smart to make that mistake. There is nothing wrong with being proud of our accomplishments, though.

If we work together on this, keep putting our heads together and coming up with ideas that are fresh and original and then act on them, we'll have another accomplishment to be proud of.

A dramatic opening statement, I believe, is necessary because we want people to know that we are serious and we will be heard.

It's SHOWTIME!
Wingnut 07-10-2004 08:40 AM
Working now. Thanks. No harm ment to anyone. Just don't let the elite label go to your head as that caused countless problems among members back at Gundam.com.
NVWC2006 07-10-2004 09:00 AM
I had never known that there would or would not be a season 3, but I had hoped for something.

Knowing that there won't be is fine. Many are fine with the ending.

HOWEVER, the elimination of Big O and other anime over time from the Cartoon Network and [adult swim] schedule is outragous.

If such a thing happens, Cartoon Network will never get a rating from me again, except for the split second from when I flip channels. And I may make sure to skip over it then, too.

I shall join.

However, I give one recommendation... Somehow we must spread the word to all of the Action fans of [adult swim]. Even if they don't care about Big O, they would care if their InuYasha and Cowboy Bebop stopped airing. I think perhaps a section for non-Big-O fans but anime sympethizers should be made...Though how to go about that I don't know. Did someone already post this information at the AS forums? It should go right in Action if it hasn't already. In fact, it should go in the New Shows and the Requests too, to show how in time it will be pointless to request anything new.
But I'm sure that if someone DID do that, posting in every section like that would get them banned..Better get a new IP address and user name!

HERE HERE! if you look back to the early days of this forum you'll find tons of actually philosophical and really intreging (sp?) threads! The rewind theory and how it might work, the theories about the series and such. How Big Fau and Big O's final stage triggered the appearance of Big Venus...

I can honestly say I'm smart, and I can honestly say that a majority of the rest of the people here ARE smart or at least not stupid.

Funny cartoons like family guy...bah...they have no plot, no meaning...I don't like those shows...in order to help mature our minds we need something fun and yet intellegent with a plot. I swear to god if I find that guy i'm going to punch him! Mad Saying no to anime!? THOSE f***ING BASTARDS!

((I'd go to the savebigo site...but it's taking too long to load on the laptop Sweatdrop stupid dialup.))

Hey R Smith... remember when I said if CN screws up one more time, I'm done with them... Yeah, well this is it. Time to bug the hell out of them and Save it. Let's get all militant kids.
