I hope not!
But all i know is that tis movie is only in the concept phase. No production has been started yet. So I imagine that things are prone to change as it (hopefully) moves along. There prolly aren't any guarantees abou anything at this point, including character names.

But why Kate Rose? And change Rei to Ray? Oh well. I guess we'll see.

But apprently a big name oscar winning director is intrested in the project....

Which means they'll change everything around to fit how the director wants it.

Wasn't the special effects studio (or something) related to Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings movies?
And I had also heard that some of the character sketches were signed by artists and some people had confused the artists' names for thinking they were the changed names of the characters.
I dunno.
Both of those comments above could be outdated and/or wrong by now.
Anywho, I'm interested in seeing how they would make this film. A lot of its "greatness" is taking a lot of stereotypical anime themes and completely blowing them out of the water.
Is this going to be a series (trilogy?) of movies or are they going to just try to put it all into one?

WETA, to be exact.
It's the studio that did all the CG for LOTR. That's why at least I'm not worried about the visual end of things with this movie. It's everything else that bothers me.

I think it's supposed to be just one movie. Obviously, there's no way they could possibly shove all of Eva into that, so I think they'll be making their own, new storyline.
That is, they better make a new story, or god knows what'll happen...

From the concept artwork I've seen, they'll be going up to around the 6th episode of the tv series, or the 3rd manga volume. As long as they don't mess with things too much, I won't mind if they create an alternate storyline. IF this movie makes it big, this could create a trilogy at the very least.
